Our third successful match!

On a balmy Saturday night two days after Thanksgiving, Soccer Heals faced off with GO Soccer for the 2nd time. The scoreline put Soccer Heals in front (3-1) with goals from Sal Lubrano, Greg Lavine and Andrew D'Aversa. Our team kept possession well and played a classy game indicating good chemistry between our players. 'We are improving and moving forward more often on the field.' says Nathan D'Aversa.

More importantly we raised about 800$ and saw plenty of familiar faces from the community in the stands as well as local supporters. Thanks a lot for coming out everybody! We appreciate your attendance and support!

Sorry Dennis who didn't make it to the game although very much wanted to play. We'll see you on the field next match.

Check the blog in the near future for updates on a winter tournament in Vermont and a springtime game against a top NJ Division 1 school. Enjoy the pics

THANKSGIVING MATCH ON THE 28TH (Sat) at 7pm

Exciting news from the Soccer Heals crew. We have a definite match this thanksgiving weekend on Saturday(28th) at 7pm. We are slated to play a rematch vs. GO Soccer who we lost to last thanksgiving. Our team makeup has changed with a few new players and a few who have left leaving us with a very competitive side. This will be our third fundraiser and our biggest yet so, please do not miss out. Also, there is a raffle this year that includes some hefty prizes!

The theme is “Fighting Hunger in Hunterdon” and all the proceeds will go to three food pantries, specifically, the Flemington Food Pantry, Fisherman’s Mark( the food pantry in Lambertville), and Readington Starfish(food pantries):

Raffle: with the five dollar ticket the spectator will be eligible to win:

1st place: ITouch

2nd place: gift certificates from GO Soccer, Darrows sporting goods (Whitehouse Station)

3rd place: gift certificates from a couple of bagel stores

Hope to see lots of people there!

Well, what a match it was. Kickoff started as the sun withdrew behind the Manhattan skyline as our team (with one sub) took it to the Hoboken club. The teams were well matched but, possession remained mostly with Soccer Heals throughout the game resulting in a 4-1 victory for our young team. All in all a great fundraiser with the only negative note being that the venue didn't allow for maximum fundraising. It was by a walker's path and very open to the public allowing for people to come and go as they pleased. In total we raised 500$ which, certainly helps the cause. Thanks Lounge 11 and the referees for coming out and providing a top notch match! Everyone was very honored and happy to see the Burmese monks in attendance! Check out the pictures...

One of the refs made this comment via e-mail after the match:
"All three of us had a great time. Unfortunately, many of the games we work aren't played with the same skills and sporting mentality exhibited by your teams last night. We had a lot of fun. Thanks for the invitation."

These three prolific and inspiring monks will be there to watch and speak a few words at halftime

GAME THIS SATURDAY the 18th at Sinatra Field, Hoboken NJ

This saturday the Soccer Heals crew will take on Lounge 11, a competitive club from Hoboken to raise money for Burmese monks located in Utica NY.

The buddhist practicing monks have tried to raise awareness within their own country and have faced relentless violence and brutality eventually leading them to their escape to the US. While here they still remain activists, trying hard to organize and educate the public about their governments repressive ways.

Please come join us and help our cause while enjoying a competitive soccer match!

Our 1st match a success

Soccer Heals unfortunately pulled out of Saturday's match against GO Soccer FC with a loss (3-1).  The game remained fairly even the entire match with GO Soccer capitalizing on nearly every chance they had giving them the upper hand.  Soccer Heals seemed to retain possession for long periods of the game and even created some chances but, never finished.  The GO Soccer keeper was quick and looking in good form.  Thanks GO Soccer FC for coming out and giving us a competitive game!
We did manage to raise 900$ in donations which, will go to Doctors without Borders.  Game night was chilly deterring some fans from coming out but, that coldness worked in our favor with hot chocolate and coffee sales.  Also, no one bought the giant Adidas ball that we were auctioning off at halftime.

Thanks to all the fans and players that came out to support our cause and check back often to see updates on games and fundraisers in the near future.
